Solo Exhibition in the Porvoo Art Factory, Taidehalli, Konsthallen, May-June 2016. (Later shown as part of the solo show UTOPIA at Vaasa Art Gallery/ Vasa konsthall 2017)
The Comfort of Geometry (2016-17) is a body of work that got started from a saying that the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein felt it both comforting and calming to contemplate on geometrical matters when suffering from anxiety. The longing for structure, order and meaning of life seems indeed to be fundamental for most human beings. The act of painting is here firmly connected to meditative repetition, structuring and layering both materially and as an inner process. The works are furthermore a feminist tongue in cheek comment on modernism, constructivism and the myth about male artist genius. In The Comfort of Geometry the paint is added on the canvases with deliberate flippancy avoiding all kinds of tape, measuring tools and mathematical calculations needed to create orthodox constructivism.
