FINNISH POTTERY is a painting project based on our interest in materiality and how objects are collected and given different values. The images in the series specifically play with fictional ceramic objects and the painted visualizations give them the character of portraits. Conceptually, my project refers to ideas about capitalistic consumption and especially conspicuous consumption which thrive to elevate status related to the societal norm. The images in the series have a consistently queer and feministic character by formally integrating and flirting with human body parts and bodily deviance. The queerness is conceptually integrated in the visualized objects as unique creations which do not represent todays normative status object. The ironical and humorous twist of the theme should be obvious.
